Welcome! My name is Michèle Castiaux. Originally from Belgium, I have been living in Ireland since 1999. I have an M.Sc. in Geology and an M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences & Management.
After working for a few years as a consultant, I am now focused on education. My Mission: "I want to provide Geology and Environmental Education as an enjoyable experience that will promote personal responsibility and respect for our heritage and environment."
I visit primary schools as a Heritage Specialist (Heritage in Schools Scheme run by the Heritage council) and secondary schools (Heritage Council) where I give workshops and presentations on various subjects such as geology, environmental management, water conservation an sustainable development. I have been visiting over 250 primary and secondary schools since 2007.
I also organise forest walks with primary schools and river studies with secondary school students (T.Y. and L.C.) in the Midlands and in Co. Wicklow.
My workshops are child-friendly and educational. Many are suitable for the different stages of the Green Schools. The workshops easily fit in the geography curriculum as they include social, environmental and scientific education.
I am also Vice President of the Irish Geological Association.
Finally, I adhere to the Child Protection Policy put together by The Heritage Council in 2018. As of July 2014, I have been Garda vetted to work for the Heritage Council with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
